How to Prepare for Your First Professional Clean

Booking your first professional clean shouldn’t feel like homework. A little preparation goes a long way, but most of what people stress about before a first clean is exactly the stuff you should leave to us.

Here’s what’s actually worth doing, what isn’t, and what to expect when the OSCC team arrives for your first residential clean.

Worth doing before we arrive

Clear the surfaces, not the house. We clean around your life, but benches, floors and tables covered in bits and pieces slow the detail work down. Ten minutes of tidying lets us spend our time cleaning instead of shuffling, and you get more clean for the same quote.

Tell us your priorities. Every home has one thing the owner cares about most, whether that’s the oven, the shower glass or the floors. Tell us what matters and we’ll make sure it gets the attention it deserves, on the first visit and every visit after.

Sort access and parking. Let us know how we’re getting in, any gate codes or key arrangements, and where the team can park. This matters even more on acreage and hinterland properties, where the driveway alone can be a journey (Cleaning a Hinterland or Acreage Home: Why Septic-Safe Products Matter).

Mention anything delicate. Stone benchtops, timber floors, special finishes or that one heirloom vase all get treated differently, so flag them when you book. We’d rather know up front than guess on the day.

Tell us about your pets. We love pets. Really. We just like to know who we’re going to meet, whether the dog stays inside, and whether anyone bolts the moment a door opens.

Not worth doing

There’s also a short list of things you can happily skip. Don’t clean before we get there, even though you’d be amazed how many people do. That’s what you’re paying us for, and pre-cleaning mostly hides the areas that need real attention.

Don’t buy products or equipment either. We bring everything: professional products, our own gear and the right tools for each surface, with eco-friendly and septic-safe products as standard. And don’t feel you need to stay home, because plenty of our clients are at work while we clean. Whatever you’re comfortable with works for us.

What happens on the day

We turn up on time, in uniform, with the right gear. That’s not a slogan, it’s our daily mission, and it’s checkable at your front door.

Your first clean usually runs deeper than a regular visit, because we’re bringing your home up to our standard, the same one every visit after this maintains (Weekly vs Fortnightly Cleaning: Which Is Right for Your Home?). The team works to a structured system, so nothing depends on memory and nothing gets skipped, whichever cleaner is in which room.

Before we call a job done, it gets checked against our standard, not the clock. We’re quote-based, so there’s no racing the minutes and no surprise on the invoice. Learn more about how we work.

After the clean

Walk through your home and enjoy it. If anything isn’t right, tell us straight away and we’ll fix it. That’s not a favour, that’s our standard: done right, or done again, and we make it right without being chased.

Questions We Hear Every Week

Do I need to be home during the clean?

No. Many clients give us access instructions and come home to the result. We’re fully insured, our team is professionally vetted, and we treat your keys and codes with strict care.

Do I need to supply any products or equipment?

No. We bring professional products and equipment suited to your surfaces, with eco-friendly and septic-safe options as standard. If you prefer specific products used in your home, just tell us.

Can my pets be home while you clean?

Yes. We love pets. Let us know who lives there and any rules, like which doors stay shut, and we’ll work around them happily.

How long will my first clean take?

It depends on the size and condition of your home, which is exactly why we quote the job rather than charge by time. First cleans run deeper than regular visits, and the quote covers the result, not the minutes.

What if I'm not happy with something?

Tell us the same day and we’ll make it right. Our standard is the standard, and we’d rather redo something than leave it below the bar.
